GoogleSun Office Software

Google Inc will promote Sun Microsystems word processing and office software products in an alliance that was announced Tuesday October 4th 2005. This step by Google is a challenge at Microsofts dominance of the computer users desktops worldwide.

Google and Sun gave very few details at the press conference. They did say that they would jointly promote OpenOffice, Sun’s free office productivity software that is a competitor of Microsofts Office suite of software, and Sun’s Java software platform, which runs thousands of PC’s.

The multi year strategic agreement, as its called, promotes Java technology and the Google Toolbar.

With this agreement, Sun will include the Google Toolbar as an option in its consumer downloads of the Java Runtime Environment on Http://www.java.com.
