Google Open Source Development

Google has contributed a grant to an Oregon State university project to encourage open source hardware and software development.

Search engine giant, Google Inc. is contributing $350,000 to a joint project between Oregon State University and Portland State University, which will create a joint-university open source technology center.

The Techology center is set to complete in 2006. It will be used to coordinate curriculum across Oregon’s universities. It will also offer student internships, and provide a computing infrastructure to open source development projects.

The Technology centre is also intended to help the commercialization, and output of open source by acting as a hub for the state’s venture capital community, technology firms, and incubators.
