Google Transit

Google launches another extention to its Google Local mapping software. Google Transit.

Google launched a beta version of the new Google Transit. It is basically a city transit trip planner. Currently in beta form, Portland Oregon is the only participating transit authority listed.

With the new Google Transit, you can choose the current time and date, or a future time and date you are planning on taking the city transit. Google will then spit out a directional map, with Start location, End destination, Duration of the trip, and cost. There is also a cost comparison. City transit vs. driving dollar spent.

In the Google Transit interface, you can tab between Drive There and Take Public Transit tabs. It switches the route to the fastest route.
