Picasa has underwent some drastic improvements, and the evidence was made available late Tuesday evening.

Picasa Web Albums now has the ability to drag and drop imagery right onto a map, so you can pinpoint the exact locations where your pictures were taken. This new Map my Photos feature can be done by entering the location in the Place Taken field, or by dropping single images onto a map. Maps can then be shared, and even viewed in Google Earth.

Google has also introduced a Picasa Web Albums built exclusively for mobile devices. By visiting http://photos.google.com and entering your Picasa credentials, you are brought to a list of your available photo sets. Photos can then be viewed and downloaded onto your device. Just make sure you have a nice size data plan before viewing them. Comments can also be made on your friends photos by entering the My Favorites sections.

Google has not been happy with the latest rounds the Microsoft has implemented for Vista. The search giant believes that Microsoft is still violating the consent decree and limiting consumer choices for search options. The work done on the new OS are in the right directions, but should be further improved to give customers greater access to alternate desktop search providers.

Microsoft has not made it possible in Vista for search defaults to be changed in a universal way. They have kept the search system as a default throughout all of Windows Explorer.

Google has, or is about to acquire GrandCentral. The news was caught by Michael Arrington on Sunday, but no dollar amounts have been discussed.

GrandCenral is a business that will give you one phone number, for all of your phone for life. Their $6 Million in capital raised led them to beta launch last September with lots of success in the online space, unfortunately the product wasn’t ready, and the bandwagon slowed down earlier this year. However, they have been working hard this year with a mobile release among others.

Just two years ago, Google landed on capital hill with one employee. Since that time Google has built that department out to a team of 12 of lobbyists that have close ties within political parties.

So what does the Google Washington team do? They dont just hang out in a lobby all day doing nothing! Ok bad joke, they lobby to try and protect Google’s constantly expanding products and acquisitions from antitrust challenges. Fighting against anything from business dealings and censorships in China, to their recent complaint against Microsoft’s Windows Vista about being anti-competitive. They of course have just won this argument, and Microsoft has agreed to make changes in the Vista OS to make it easier to use non Microsoft search applications.

What will the future of Google be? Will they maintain their current growth rates? Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt took some time to ponder these questions while at a press event recently in Paris.

Google has been growing by leaps and bounds ever since it started, with phenomenal growth rates over the past few years, what can they do to maintain this growth? Schmidt says that an important strategy Google is undertaking will be to concentrate on providing applications and other services to business consumers. Small business and universities will become a significant part of the plan for Google since they both utilize the search giants sales and infrastructure. This is extremely evident in the past few years since Google has introduced business targeted hardware and applications, the Google Search appliance, Google Mini and the Google Apps Premier Edition.

Even as Schmidt claims they are not in a competition with Microsoft, they are poised to take control of the online office application market.

This move is a voluntary plan that has been put into place by the search leader, making a stance to lead by example in cleaning up the environment.
